Fear is the opposite of love. Love encompasses all the positive emotions that feel good to you and others. Fear, on the other hand, can lead to an array of negative emotion that feels bad to you and others. Naturally, fear should be avoided, and love embraced. But as we experience everyday this is not the case; as a whole humanity could really step up the love shown on this planet. Fear is the root of worrying, stress, and negativity and creates a rippling effect of suffering into one’s life. Fear is the root emotion underlying most, if not all, of the world’s individual and global suffering. Unacknowledged and suppressed fears influence your life in some way and you have no idea why bad things keep happening to you. Simply addressing your fears allows you to release the pent up energy surrounding the fear, anxiety, and tension so that the fear has less of a hold on you. This frees up energy to go beyond the imaginary limits of fear into a world of possibilities.

Fear is a part of the human condition and an inevitable part of your journey. You can run fear, or you can be run by fear, either way fear is here. The interesting thing to understand about fear is that it is an assumption based in the future and only exists in your mind. By definition fear is an exaggerated and unpleasant emotion associated with a dreaded assumption relating to the future. Fear is worrying about something that has not happened. Fear is thinking in worst-case scenarios while simultaneously experiencing an exaggerated array of emotional and often physical discomfort associated with your projection of the fear. The discomfort of fear is often worse than actually experiencing the fear, which in most of the cases never happens anyway.

Fear, or False-Evidence-Appearing-Real, is an illusion created by your mind about the future. Fear exists only in your mind and only in the future. Fear is a perpetuating cycle of unpleasant anticipation that constantly seeks something to be afraid of. Even when the original fear comes near people instantly focus on the next fear. For instance, think of someone who is afraid of the dark. They are only afraid of the dark until it becomes dark. Now they are afraid of what is in the dark (strangers, wild animals). This fear only lasts until a wild animal comes out. Now the person is afraid of what the animal will do and whether it will attack. This fear only lasts until the animal attacks because then you instantly fear for your safety and how you will overcome the attack. When you experience your fear the fear disappears and finds another mask to scare you. In the face of your fear you are strong enough and capable of handling the situation with only a fraction of the emotional energy you experienced through former moments of anticipated fear. Fear becomes unnecessary emotional torment because it is based on an illusion- a thought about a future event that has not occurred.

Here are some examples of fear so you can see how fear might be influencing your life and development:

Common fears: Things that are unknown: dark, strangers, germs, ghosts, aliens, conspiracy, weather, storms, ocean. Other species: everything from snakes, rats, and spiders, to wild animals, sharks and sea life, to dogs and cats. Being a victim of crime: bad guys, losing possessions, losing money, being attacked, and weapons. Experiencing physical pain or loss of functioning: disease, illness, accident, and impairment. Lacking self-worth: not getting enough approval, attention, acceptance, respect, love, etc. Feeling out of control: heights, flying, war, conflict, dominance, or feeling trapped. Change and loss in: self, identity, friends, career, status, wealth, materials, schedule, freedom, etc. Death and dying: when will I die? How will it happen? Where will I go next? Did I fulfill my purpose?

You can see that there are so many fears. Fear can wear many masks and influence you in nearly every situation if you allow. When you fail to address and overcome your fears they manifest into problems somewhere in your life. The first consequence of uncontrolled fear is anxiety. Fear puts you in a constant state of anxiety and stress. It is this anxiety, worrying, and stress that lead to other problems like substance abuse and addiction, conflict and tension in relationships, lack of stability and confidence in yourself, poor choices in health and wellness, and lack of movement or growth in your personal and professional goals. Fear creates the illusion that you are limited so you are limited unnecessarily. Fear prevents you from growing, developing, and becoming more successful because through fear you are self-sabotaging.

Fear is not always a bad thing; after all, fear is a natural instinct that serves as a guidance system on your journey. For instance, the fear of dangerous things (such as hot or sharp objects, heights, wild animals, and traffic highways) encourages you to avoid or approach with caution, keeping your safe. The fear of being invaluable motivates you to add value to others. The fear of being ignored encourages you to say meaningful things. The fear of failing motivates you to succeed. Unaddressed and suppressed fears influence you blindly; they might help and they might not. You can take advantage of your fears by addressing them and then using them to motivate and guide you.

How do you address and overcome your fears? And how do you utilize your fears to motivate you? The answer sits in the question. 1) Address your fears. Acknowledge that you have fears that influence your thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and habits, and thus your life. Make a list of things you are worried about, anxious over, and scared of, so you can see your fears and how they are influencing you. Acknowledge worst-case scenarios. Do not leave fears unidentified and suppressed within you. Bring them out and look at them in detail. Face your fears by learning about and familiarizing yourself with the idea or image representing the fear. Identify where your fears came from? How long have you been carrying them? How much have they affected you versus helped you? Talk to your fears and reaffirm that you are in control of them and not them you.

2) Use fear to your advantage. Fears show you the edge of your comfort zone. What sits outside your comfort zone that you want? Worrying about one thing to happen means you desire something else to happen. So use your fear to motivate you toward the opposite side of your fear- your desired outcome. If your fear is having a panic attack in public then your desired outcome is to be comfortable, confident, stable, and safe around people in public. Rather then allowing this fear to keep you inside your comfort zone (home), find little ways to step outside your comfort zone that will put you in contact with people. Your fear becomes your goal. Once you clarify your desired result your focus changes from the fear to the desire. Whereas fear brings about anxiety, desire brings about passion, excitement, and courage. These positive emotions inspire and motivate the goal behind your fear.

Summary: Fear is a natural part of your human experience. Everyone experiences fear on an individual, group, and global level. There are aspects of fear you can control and there are aspects you cannot. Focus on the positive side of fear and use fear to motivate you toward your desired outcome rather than your feared outcome. What you focus on most is most likely to come true. Most discomfort and suffering in life stems from a fearful mind. Focus on the desired outcome of your fear, the best-case scenario, life beyond your fear, and identify ways to use your fear to motivate and guide you.

It is possible to be, do, and have anything you want? The answer is yes it is possible under the right conditions. When you know what you want and paint a detailed picture of this in your head the degree of possibility goes up. When you desire things you are passionate for the possibility goes up even more. When you believe without a doubt that what you want will come in due time, the possibility goes up even more. There are countless success teachings on how to manifest your goals; the most basic success teachings are the most important teachings. These success teachings are universal and can be applied by anyone at anytime. If you really want to test out this concept and “be, do, and have anything you want” then I suggest putting a personal development plan into place and learning and mastering success teachings one day at a time.

You can be, do, and have anything you want when you become the type of person it takes to create the type of reality you desire. You must be the person you want to be before you will ever become this person. You must appreciate everything you have before more things to be appreciated will come into your life. You must start doing the things you want to do before these things can find a way to expand into your life.

Who you are is what you get. Your reality is your perception and your perception is a mirror image of who you are. Your life is a reflection of your personality and character. A success teaching is to focus on becoming the type of person who it would take to have the life you want. If you want a better life or a better anything there are little tweaks you can make to your mindset that will pay huge dividends in your life. This is why the most important thing to invest in is personal development, specifically the comments that make up internal success. A different way of putting this is- the better person you become inside the better your life gets outside. A good life is created by a good person.

Here are some reasons why it is hard to believe in this concept and why people give up:

1) It is difficult to change. Everyone has created a program that they are currently operating on. It isn’t always easy to just change your desires, impulses, and habits, but it is simple and possible.

2) There is too much freedom and possibility that it scares people. Subconsciously people create barriers and obstacles between them and their goals to avoid having to take action, work hard, and/or venture out too far, it’s scary. These barriers and obstacles are easily identified through excuses, rationalizing, and limiting ways of thinking (i.e. “I can’t…”). People like Wayne Dyer have shown that excuses are illusions; it is like chasing the end of the rainbow. They are fabrications of the mind; they may seem real but really there is always another way. This means that people do not have what they want because they don’t really want it bad enough. Subconsciously people are not willing to do or go through what they think it would take to have it, therefore it is not possible.

3) People have more of a tendency to focus on what they don’t have versus what they do have. What you focus on expands, so what do you think comes out of worrying?

4) It is hard to believe that anything is possible after all this time of disbelief. When you don’t believe something is possible it gets removed from your radar all together.

5) It is difficult to see what needs to change for you to get unstuck. Maybe you want change and will do anything for it but you don’t know what you are doing wrong or what to change. Many people do not know there are success teachings that any human can apply to any situation and see results. Think of prayer. It works and anyone can do it.

6) There is a lag time between your wish, prayer, and goal and its manifestation. During this lag time of waiting people become impatient and forget that the universe is a massive puzzle working on a much larger picture. Due to boredom and impatience people become hazy in their wishes and think in all directions. Now God and the Universe have another layer of complexity, deciphering which of your thoughts are goals. This gets a little metaphorical at times but hopefully it makes sense. And lastly and probably the number one reason people don’t have what they want, is that

7) People do not know what they want.

Do any of these 7 reasons remind you of you? It is possible that you have put up an imaginary barrier between you and your goals so you don’t have to change anything? Is it possible that you want your goal but are self-sabotaging your every effort? Let me remind you that you really don’t have to change much to get a different result. Small shifts in your thinking create huge changes in your life. You can literally reprogram your mind to produce a different result in your reality.

You are invited to share your goals with us at Being True To You and we’ll help you determine what shifts you can make in your mind to produce a different result. We can even design a program just for you to map out one or more of your goals. You do not have to change a thing. You just have to commit to daily focuses that will align your thinking with your goal.

What exactly is meditation? Meditation is choosing to relax your mind and body in a quiet place as you allow yourself to simply exist in the present moment without any human thought. Through a meditative state you are able to connect with your inner body and most believe higher truths. These truths may come from the stored information within the subsconsious mind, or it is theorized to come from the divine or infinite intelligence. You can see how meditation is like prayer in how one connects to a higher source. Meditation is also quieting the noise of your external reality and ego to refresh, rejuvenate, and reconfigure your mind, body, and soul.

Who is meditation for? Mediation is for everyone, everywhere, at any time. Meditation can occur in just a few seconds or be stretched out over hours. Meditation is used for stress, fear, worry, pain, overwhelm, chaos, trauma, problems negative emotion, etc.; this is because meditation brings forth: relief, faith, love, belief, pleasure, order, control, answers, solutions, and positive emotion. Meditation is practiced by people who seek internal peace, happiness, and bliss. It is a practice for those who want to take control of their thoughts and emotions. It is for those who seek higher consciousness and connection to truth, to their higher source.

Why is meditation essential? To put simply, stress is your #1 enemy and meditation is the #1 combat of stress. Stress is a typical reaction to the chaos most of us bring into our lives on a daily basis. Stress has become normal and many people even feed off of their high paced and stressful lifestyle. Stress is a reaction of being disconnected from your true essense and nature, and many believe disconnected from God (however you define). Meditation keeps you level, balanced, peaceful, controlled, and in alignment with your true self and purpose.

Mediation benefits all areas of development. Meditation creates peace and love within you; meditation acknowledges and eliminates negative emotions (such as resentment, anger, frustration, jealously, guilt). The light that meditation brings within you is transmitted into your relationships, your character, and your life. Emotionally you are in control and learn to respond patiently and appropriately in the present moment. Personally and professionally you are in alignment with what you want and believe in. You flow effortlessly with life as oppose to forcing and struggling against life.

Meditation relaxes your mind; when your mind is relaxed your emotional and physical states become relaxed. Through prayer and meditation you connect with peace, harmony, balance, love, and happiness which cannot occur simultaneoulsy with tension, anxiety, stress, and negative emotion. The very nature of relaxation is peace and tranquility. This relaxed state allows you to listen to your heart and connect with your inner guidance system. During relaxed states your mind and body can heal, restore, and rejuvenate.

Meditation and prayer have profound benefits to you physically, physiologically, and neurologically. Meditation increases overall brain activity, memory, and functioning. Meditation promotes relaxation and decreases stress; meditation decreases moodiness and depression. These states of relaxation allow your brain to restore and build new connections. Meditation strengthens brain power and the ability to create or align with your desired reality. Meditation also improves blood pressure and promotes a healthy heart. Meditation increases the flow of oxygen and energy making it easier to breathe. Meditation improves overall health, energy, and motivation. Meditation promotes your youthful appearance.

Many spiritual leaders and health experts suggest meditation as a number one practice to cultivate health, happiness, and success! There is immeasureable amounts of research and literature to support this topic from the beginning of recorded time. Meditation and prayer have roots in the earliest stages of nearly all spiritual, religious, and healing arts that I know of.

What is happening during meditation? In the typical American mind people are being pushed and pulled in all directions. Unregulated thoughts are overwhelmingly taking over one’s mind, and thus life. Meditation takes your focus away from the clutter of what is going on in your reality, and puts concentrated attention on one simple subject or matter. So the first step is taking control of your mind in the purpose of deliberate concentration. Once you learn to focus your mind it becomes easier to silence and still your mind. In the heart of true meditation your mind sits in a consistant state of stillness, an unwavering flow of concentration. This is true bliss. Your awareness is detached from self and ego and immersed in a higher realization of the collective nature of the Universe. Thoughts and visions will come to you when your mind is quiet. Through meditation your mind moves from ego consciousness to universal or God consciousness.

How do you meditate? Before you begin – locate a quiet and still place where you will not be interrupted. You should have comfortable clothing and a comfortable cushion to sit on. You should not be too sleepy, too hungry, nor too full. Calm music, candles, insence are optional. Set a specific amount of time to meditate. 10-15 to start is great.

Posture – Sit up with your back straight, your head slightly tilted forward, your mouth and eyes slighty open in a relaxed manner, your shoulders relaxed and level, and your hands right under your belly button (right hand on top of your left hand facing upward). It is suggested you sit cross-legged (or double lotus) but if it is too uncomfortable to begin with a chair or laying down is fine.

Meditation – The objective is to stop all thoughts but you will find this takes practice. So begin by focusing on only one image or thought and do not let your mind wonder. You can repeat a saying over and over, you can focus solely on your breathing, or you can focus on an object.

When is a good time to meditate? Meditation is best when you are alone in a safe, relaxed, and quiet environment (of course you can meditate with others too). It is suggested that you find time and space daily to meditate. Meditation does not always have to be scheduled and planned. You can literally mediate anytime by just stopping all mental activity for any duration of time. Think of free times throughout your day: stop lights, shower, dialing a number, restroom breaks, walks to and from places, elevators, etc. Use these little moments to refresh through quick meditations but also be sure to schedule routine meditations to maximize the benefits.

Summary: Meditation is the connection to your lifeline. You are at your most conscious state when you are in a state of meditation, or contemplation. At your highest state of consciousness you have access to the truths and answers you seek in your life. You have power to control and program your mind to align with your desired outcomes. You have the ability to heal your body through conscious intention and faith. You are connected to source energy, to your higher self, to God. Meditation connects you to your truest nature; it is in this state that you fully tune up your mind, body, and spirit and build the reserves of information and energy you need to get through life most effectively. Meditation, prayer, and contemplation show you who you are, what you’re here for, and the available resources and reserves here to help you!

There will come a day when it’s time to tell the truth. Not necessarily to the whole world, but to yourself in the least, and probably to those you have lied. Failing to tell the truth in the present moment puts secrets into your past that will inevitably affect you. Whether you realize it or not, dishonesty impacts your mental, emotional, physical, social, professional, and personal development and wellbeing. Dishonesty invites darkness into every cell of your mind and body. This darkness manifests into emotional and physical pain. If you knew your depression, anxiety, injury, illness, or pain was the result of all the dishonest times you’ve compiled over the years, what would you do? The fact is, and you’ve heard it before, the truth will set you free. The truth will cleanse you of darkness, suffering, and pain. The truth does not always need to be revealed to everyone, or even anyone, but the truth must be acknowledged by you.

A major part of healing, growth, and development is opening up and being completely honest and authentic with yourself. Being honest is not easy in the beginning. But it is only the fear of what might happen that scares you. In reality, the truth will set you free of the illusion these fears create. Yes there may be an initial and unpleasant reaction to your sudden honesty; but through honesty you are freeing your mind, body, and life of darkness. As darkness is shed new light can come into your life. You fear the consequences of telling the truth, but what are the consequences of not telling the truth? How will your health, happiness, and life be sacrificed under your lies? How will the experience of others around you be comprised?

In order to grow and evolve you must acknowledge every aspect of who you are and what you’ve done. You may not be ready to tell others, but you must start by acknowledging the truth within yourself. You must understand that any form of dishonesty: secrets, exaggerations, lies, and fibs, etc. must come out to experience higher levels of growth, happiness, and success. Also, dishonesty attracts dishonesty. So if you expect to develop honest and authentic relationships you will have to become an honest and authentic person.

If you are not being 100% open and honest this is a good indication that you are doing something outside of your value system. We lie because we fear we will not be accepted; in most cases we fear we will not be accepted when we are doing something we know isn’t right or good. Look at the secrets, lies, or exaggerations in your life and ask yourself why you are protecting this information. What are you afraid of? What will you have to do to find congruence between your actions and your beliefs so you can be honest? The theory of cognitive dissonance shows that people change their beliefs and values to fit their actions to avoid inner conflict. So you are cautioned here to clarify your beliefs and values first and then to change your behaviors to fit your values. Rationalizing your behaviors is still lying to yourself.

If you are someone who is still in the midst of lying and secretiveness you are encouraged to think about what you are doing, feeling, and saying because all of this will come out someday. You may think, “I’ll just never tell; or better yet I’ll just forget about it and it will be gone forever.” But it doesn’t work this way. Dishonesty will manifest into bigger problems; and unfortunately by the time it happens you will not realize that the dark secrets and lies in which you buried are the cause of your pain and suffering.

There is no hierarchy in terms of dishonesty. Dishonesty at any level is simply dishonesty. The crazy thing about truth and lies is that people can sense which type of person you are anyway. Think of the dishonest people in your life; you know they are dishonest but they think they have you fooled. Dishonest people are not fooling anyone but themselves.

The message here today is: tell the truth faster as it will haunt you until it comes out. The truth will set you free of suffering when you choose to bring it out on your own good will.
